'This seminar is offered in the context of a new research project, organized by Professors Curto, Molho, and Stråth, and entitled Rethinking / Rewriting the History of Europe. It is contemplated that this project will last for four years, and that each year will be devoted to a thematic unit. This year's theme is "Images of Europe."

The seminar is organized around three day-long workshops, to be held on Monday 17 March, Monday 7 April, and Monday 19 May. Each workshop will be preceded and followed by two seminar sessions, the first devoted to discussing the issues to be addressed in the workshop, while the second will be dedicated to a retrospective analysis of the workshop's contents and discussion.

The seminar 'Economy and Politics in Europe after the erosion of the nation state: historical, socio-political and legal perspectives' is a continuation of the previous seminar series of the Working Group "The economy as a polity" at the Robert Schuman Centre, and will continue to operate in that context. It is alo linked to the complemenatry project on "A European Social Citizenship? Preconditions for Future Policies in Historical Light", organised by Lars Magnuson and Bo Stråth.

'Economy and Politics in Europe after the erosion of the nation state: historical, socio-political and legal perspectives' is an interdepartmental project and a seminar between the Department of History and Civilisation, the Department of Law and the Department of Social and Political Sciences. During the year 2002-3, several Jean Monnet Fellows who are affiliated to the RSC Working Group will contribute to this seminar series. But we also would like to encourage contributions from EUI researchers, be it as discussants or otherwise.
The seminar will be continued during the spring term. A joint publication with the Citizenship project and the publication of related working papers is envisaged.
