This volume confronts the dramatic transformation of labour markets between the 1950s and the 1970s. This was a period when employment in manufacturing industry culminated and mass unemployment reappeared. Metal workers were deeply affected by this development. Radical claims for co-determination in the booming and affluent full employment society of the 1960s were adjusted and channelled in new directions in the face of the new challenges on the labour markets in the 1970s. The transformation of these claims is analysed in two particular problem fields: the co-determination issue and the question of wage policy with solidarity. The book can be seen as an in-depth case study of the more general problem addressed in Mellan två fonder.
