Abstract

The EUI workshop that resulted in this working paper brought together John Breuilly and Otto Dann, two major scholars in the field of nationalism. The purpose of bringing them together was to confront and discuss the similarities and differences of their views, but also as an occasion to reconsider the meaning and relationships of concepts that risk becoming marginalized without substitution of better alternatives, concepts such as modernity, nation and nationalism.
